In autumn, give in to the call of the forest... Combine a nature walk with this season's must-do activity: mushroom hunting!
With our senses alert, we plunge into the forest, our eyes on the lookout... We rake the ground covered with dead leaves or ferns which gradually take on orange and brown hues to unearth the precious sesame.
Here are our tips for a pleasant walk in the woods and for a mushroom picking that we hope will be fruitful. And with all the necessary precautions, of course!
…from Adainville, Condé-sur-Vesgre, Bazainville, Bourdonné… in search of porcini mushrooms, chanterelles, girolles, and parasol mushrooms!
To find the famous secret mushroom spots, we recommend heading towards Condé-sur-Vesgre, Adainville or Bourdonné located in the western part of the Rambouillet forest. Follow the paths of the Bois de l'Epars, whose acidic environment is fertile ground for these hatted organisms... And keep your eyes peeled!
Circuit of the Bois de l’Épars
Bazainville and the Forest of the Four Pillars is also known to pickers for containing many mushrooms along forest trails.
Before we let you go on your adventure, we must remind you of some basic tips for successful picking!
First of all, it's no secret that there are mushrooms that are more or less edible and more or less dangerous for those who eat them! So, always make sure you have the approval of a specialist before cooking your mushrooms with little onions!
Then, since two precautions are better than one, remember to keep part of your harvest. This could be useful in case of poisoning to find the origin of the problem.
It is also essential to be well equipped. Wear shoes that are suitable for the weather. Think of a knife for picking and a basket for harvesting! In fact, wicker is preferred over plastic bags because the latter can damage the mushrooms and encourage the development of bacteria. Tea towels are also useful for separating the different species and avoiding any risk.
Finally, don't forget to immortalize this picking session by taking a photo of your finds, this will make your task easier when you start the operation again!
