Access to the Park only, via the Queen's gate (for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles every day), via the Porte Saint-Antoine (for pedestrians and cyclists every day and for vehicles on weekends and public holidays) and through the Matelots gate (for pedestrians and cyclists every day) from 7 a.m. to 20:30 p.m., last access at 18:15 p.m. in high season and from 8 a.m. to 18 p.m. in low season.

Hall of Mirrors, Grand Apartments of the King, Museum of French History: over the centuries, the Palace of Versailles, seat of power until 1789, has continued to expand.

It was initially just a modest castle built by Louis XIII for hunting. It is this location which will nevertheless be chosen by Louis XIV to build the palace that we know today, a symbol of royal absolutism and the incarnation of classical French art.

In the 1670s, Louis XIV notably had the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen built. The most emblematic creation of these spaces, places of parade and reception par excellence, remains the Hall of Mirrors designed by Mansart. In the following century, expansions continued, notably with the construction of the Chapel and the Opera. The Château today has 63 m154 divided into 2 rooms.

If the Château lost its vocation as an official seat of power in 1789, it experienced a new destiny in the 1830th century: becoming the Museum of the History of France, desired by Louis-Philippe, who ascended the throne in XNUMX. Many rooms of the Château then welcomes the new collections retracing the major events in the History of France, enriched up to the beginning of the XNUMXth century.
